DIN EN ISO 9001

The DIN EN ISO 9001 standard defines the requirements to be met by a quality management system (QM system) in a situation where an organisation must demonstrate its capability to provide products that meet the demands of customers and any official requirements and strives to enhance customer satisfaction.

This standard describes the entire quality management system in an exemplary fashion and is the basis of a comprehensive quality management system.

Principles of quality management:

  • Customer orientation
  • Management responsibility
  • Involvement of all personnel
  • Process-oriented approach
  • Interaction between processes
  • Continuous improvement
  • Supplier relationships for mutual benefit

The introduction of a quality management system is a strategic decision for an organisation.
Where an organisation wishes to strengthen its customer orientation to achieve competitive advantages, this standard provides a basis upon which these objectives can be achieved. The standard only defines a particular framework which is much broader in scope than previous standards. 9000 et seq.

The current EN ISO 9001 standard was last revised in 2008 (EN ISO 9001:2008) and amended in December 2009.
